Abstract: A compact multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna system for sub-6 GHz wireless communication is disclosed, comprising a dielectric substrate, first and second radiating elements, a partial ground plane, and a plurality of metallized vias forming an electromagnetic decoupling structure. The vias, electrically coupled to the partial ground plane, are configured to suppress mutual coupling by intercepting surface and ground currents while maintaining wideband operation. Each radiating element comprises a modified inverted-E microstrip structure with slot loading for compact resonance control. The system operates around 3.5 GHz with a wide impedance bandwidth and provides high isolation and low envelope correlation. A corresponding method for reducing mutual coupling using the via-ground configuration is also disclosed, including parametric optimization of via characteristics to achieve enhanced antenna performance in compact wireless devices.
