Abstract: A NOVEL CAMPHOR AND VALERIC ACID-BASED DEEP EUTECTIC SOLVENT Abstract A novel deep eutectic solvent (NDES) and an associated preparation method are disclosed, wherein the solvent comprises a stable, homogeneous, low-melting liquid phase formed via the precise intermolecular pairing of camphor, acting as a natural hydrogen-bond acceptor, and valeric acid, acting as a hydrogen-bond donor. The constituents are thermally blended at a temperature of 80°C under continuous stirring across defined molar ratios of 1:1.5, 1:2, and 1:3, establishing a complex intermolecular hydrogen-bonding network that suppresses the freezing point well below -30°C. The physicochemical attributes of the NDES are highly tunable; at 25°C, the dynamic viscosity decreases monotonically from 11.950 mPa·s to 6.418 mPa·s with increasing valeric acid content, while surface tension and density exhibit highly optimized industrial processing ranges. In a representative process deployment, the NDES demonstrates an extraordinary extraction efficiency of 99.78% for sequestering and removing the hazardous organic dye Rhodamine B from aqueous textile wastewater, providing an eco-friendly, cost-effective, and non-toxic alternative to conventional volatile organic solvents.
