Abstract: Abstract A self-powered, battery-free Internet of Things (IoT) sensor node (100) for continuous, maintenance-free embedded infrastructure monitoring is disclosed. The sensor node harvests ambient energy in parallel from radio frequency (RF), photovoltaic (light), and structural vibration sources via dedicated, independent MPPT stages, aggregating power into a shared storage element that strictly maintains a non-allocable reserved critical-event energy floor. An adaptive energy allocation controller (130) tracks historical generation rates to predict near-term energy budgets, dynamically rationing power across node operations. On-node edge algorithms classify telemetry into Critical and Routine priority tiers. Critical alerts bypass standard schedules and are transmitted immediately using the reserved energy floor. Routine data is cached and batch-transmitted opportunistically during periods of power surplus. Under energy deficits, the node dynamically transitions between Standard Active RF and Low-Power Ambient Backscatter communication modes while scaling its sensing duty cycles, enabling graceful degradation and indefinite operational longevity without battery replacement.
