Abstract: The present invention relates to an autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle-based air quality monitoring system and method for electronic-waste dump yards. The system comprises a multi-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle carrying a multi-sensor payload configured to acquire particulate matter, gaseous pollutant, volatile organic compound and heavy-metal-associated airborne pollutant data. An edge processing module fuses geographically and temporally associated sensor measurements to determine an air quality condition and a temporal pollution trend. A machine learning inference engine processes successive sensor vectors to compute pollutant-specific air quality indices, detect electronic-waste combustion signatures and predict short-term pollution trends. An adaptive flight controller independently evaluates pollutant threshold conditions and pollution trend gradients and dynamically modifies a survey path to redirect the unmanned aerial vehicle towards an identified pollution hotspot. The flight path is locally reconfigured to increase spatial sampling density within the hotspot. Geographically tagged pollutant data is further communicated to a remote monitoring platform for generation of geospatial pollution heatmaps and multi-tier pollution.
