Abstract: An automatic seedling transplanter apparatus is disclosed for the mechanised, one-by one placement of seeds at a substantially uniform spacing, particularly for small and medium farms. The apparatus comprises a hopper (20) having a controlled outlet (22), a seed container (30) disposed below the outlet to temporarily hold seeds, and a feeder wheel (40) mounted horizontally adjacent the seed container and carrying a plurality of, in one embodiment six, spoon-shaped scoops (42) about its circumference. As the feeder wheel (40) rotates, each scoop (42) collects a single seed and discharges it into a forwardly located delivery pipe (50) that guides the seed to the soil. A DC motor (60) energised by a battery (62) drives the feeder wheel (40) and the ground-engaging machine wheels (12) in synchronism, in one embodiment through a chain drive (64), so that uniform seed spacing is maintained as the compact, portable, battery-operated apparatus advances over the ground.
