Abstract: A novel CBCT-5 guided occlusal splint therapy method is disclosed for treating myogenic TMJD patients and enhancing upper airway dimensions. The invention combines a custom rigid stabilization splint (covering posterior teeth and engaging incisors) with CBCT- based measurement of airway volume and condylar position. Patients (20–30 years, average skeletal growth) are scanned by CBCT before and 10 after 3 months of nightly splint use. Key metrics (total airway volume, naso/oropharyngeal volumes, minimum CSA, mandibular anterior/posterior joint spaces, and condylar ratio) are quantified. Comparative analysis shows that splint therapy significantly increases airway volumes (~20–25% gain) and re-centers condyles relative to untreated controls, while relieving TMJ pain and improving 15 jaw function. Four tabulated comparisons (airway metrics, condylar spaces, patient symptom scores, mandibular angles) highlight the method’s superiority to prior splints and MAD devices. In one example, treatedw payatien ts’ air volumes approached healthy norms, with posterior joint space increasing and condylar ratio moving toward zero. This evidence-based approach is unique in patent literature, 20 as it provides a non-invasive treatment proven (via CBCT) to expand airway dimensions and normalize TMJ alignment in myogenic TMJD patients.
