Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for isolating, identifying, and utilizing chlorpyrifos-tolerant cyanobacterial species for agricultural applications. The invention involves collecting samples from chlorpyrifos-contaminated rice fields, isolating cyanobacterial strains through serial dilution techniques using BG-11 medium, and screening their tolerance to varying concentrations of chlorpyrifos (50–250 ppm). The morphological characteristics of the strains are observed under a phase-contrast microscope, and their identity is confirmed through 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Specific strains such as Synnechococcus sp., Chroococcidiopsis sp., Synechocystis sp., Phormidium sp., and Oscillatoria sp. have demonstrated high tolerance to chlorpyrifos. These cyanobacterial strains serve as biofertilizers, improving soil fertility through nitrogen fixation, enhancing organic matter content, and mitigating pesticide toxicity in rice fields. The invention provides an eco-friendly and sustainable solution to restore microbial diversity in pesticide-contaminated agricultural soils and promote higher crop yields. (Accompanied Figure No. 4)
