Abstract: ABSTRACT “Integrated Apparatus and Method for In-Situ Electrochemical Hydrogen-Permeation Testing of Steel under Maintained Tensile Load” 5 10 15 The present invention relates to an apparatus (100) and method for in-situ electrochemical hydrogen-permeation testing of a steel test specimen (102) under a selected tensile condition. A tensile-loading assembly (101) grips the steel test specimen (102) and maintains the selected tensile condition. A hydrogen-charging cell (103) and a hydrogen-detection cell (104) sealingly engage opposite surfaces of a test region, with the steel test specimen (102) separating the electrolytes and serving as a common working electrode. Reference electrodes (105) and counter electrodes (106) are disposed in the cells. A potentiostat/galvanostat arrangement (107), while the selected tensile condition is maintained, applies a hydrogen-charging current or potential at a charging-side exposed surface, applies a detection potential at a detection- side exposed surface, and records hydrogen-permeation current resulting from hydrogen transport through the steel test specimen (102). The apparatus thereby permits simultaneous tensile loading and electrochemical hydrogen-permeation measurement. FIGS. 1a-1c
