Abstract: The present invention relates to a compact, modular, dual-chamber bio-electrochemical reactor for simultaneous pollutant remediation and bioelectricity recovery. The reactor comprises an anodic chamber and a cathodic chamber, each being a reusable airtight chamber of approximately 50 mL total volume provided with a carbon electrode, connected through a detachable, replaceable proton-exchange bridge of agarose–potassium chloride composition. The anodic chamber will accommodate an electroactive pollutant-degrading microbial culture that metabolizes an organic pollutant serving as a carbon source, releasing electrons and protons; the electrons flow through an external circuit to the cathodic chamber, which contains a suitable catholyte such as potassium permanganate, thereby generating electricity while the pollutant is degraded. The modular architecture is portable, transportable and adaptable to different electroactive microorganisms and pollutants, enabling repeated assembly, maintenance and continuous electrochemical monitoring for laboratory-scale environmental remediation and renewable bioenergy recovery.
