MUMBAI, India, June 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202514105277 A) filed by General Electric Renovables Espaa S. L. on October 31, 2025, for “methods And Systems For Fire Mitigation In A Wind Turbine”.
Inventors include Hoffmann, Till; and Roman Mallada, Jose Luis.
The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods (100, 200) for operating a wind turbine (10). The wind turbine (10) comprises a rotor (18) including a plurality of blades (22). A rotor disk (181) is defined by an area swept by the blades (22). The wind turbine (10) comprises a nacelle (16), a tower (15), and a yaw system (56). The methods (100, 200) comprise detecting or predicting a fire in a first blade (22f) and adjusting an azimuth angle of the rotor (18) such that the first blade (22f) is positioned in an upper half of the rotor disk (181). Furthermore, the methods (100, 200) comprise yawing the nacelle (16) away from an incoming wind direction (28) to an angle of more than 90 degrees and less 270 degrees. The present disclosure also relates to a control unit (96) configured for implementing such methods (100, 200) and to a wind turbine (10) comprising such control unit (96). (FIG. 5A)
