Abstract: A standalone solar-powered electric vehicle charging system (100) and a method (200) of operating the same are disclosed. The system (100) comprises a photovoltaic array (102) generating a fluctuating direct-current photovoltaic voltage and current; a DC–DC boost converter (106) that steps up the photovoltaic voltage to a regulated output voltage in accordance with a controllable switching duty ratio; a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controller (108) that determines the said duty ratio so as to drive the photovoltaic array (102) to its maximum power point; a charge controller (110); an energy-storage battery (112); and an electric vehicle charging port (114), the system operating independently of a utility grid. The same switching duty ratio jointly positions the photovoltaic array at its maximum power point and sets the voltage step-up ratio, whereby maximum power point tracking and output-voltage regulation are performed coherently within a single power-conditioning stage. The system thereby maximises solar energy extraction, delivers a stable regulated charging voltage under fluctuating solar conditions, and provides a low-cost, grid- independent and scalable charging solution suitable for rural and semi-urban deployment.
