MUMBAI, India, Jan. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311044557 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on July 3, 2023, for 'a battery pack with improved thermal safety.'
Inventor(s) include Sachin Ghodke; and Kushal Paudel.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 10, under issue no. 02/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A battery pack 200 includes a plurality of cells 202 enclosed in a housing 206 and a plurality of membranes 204 positioned at an upper side of each of the plurality of cells 202. The membranes 204 includes a flame-retardant material 212 enclosed within an outer layer of a phase change material 210, such that in an event of temperature of the corresponding cell exceeding a threshold temperature value, the phase change material 210 melts to allow the flame-retardant material 212 to be released within the cell 202 for cooling and delay thermal propagation the battery pack 200. Thus, the battery pack is configured to provide escape time to an occupant for leaving the vehicle before fire inter the vehicle cabin."
