MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311085917 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 15, 2023, for 'a breather plug for a transmission assembly of a vehicle.'
Inventor(s) include Ganesha Neelappa; Megha Joshi; Anjan Shadaksharaiah; Prateek Behl; Pranav Kopargaonkar; Janhavi Ghatge; and Sravan Kumaran Kunnamkulam.
The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A breather plug for a transmission assembly of a vehicle comprises a plug body (102) coupled to the transmission assembly and having an inner hollow (104) with a bottom (106), and at least one breather passage (108) located on the bottom (106) of the inner hollow (104) for providing fluidic connectivity between the inner hollow (104) and the transmission assembly. The breather plug (100) includes a valve (110) positioned within the inner hollow (104) to selectively open the breather passage (108) to allow escaping of air from the transmission assembly, an oil absorbing material (112) positioned between the valve (110) and the bottom (106) to trap oil droplets mixed with the air, and a plurality of drain passages (202) provided at the bottom (106) to facilitate the trapped oil to flow back to the transmission assembly through the breather passage (108)."
