MUMBAI, India, Aug. 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202431005962 A) filed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Kolkata, West Bengal, on Jan. 30, 2024, for 'a clamping mechanism to safely handle large diameter hemispherical dished end of nuclear heat exchanger.'
Inventor(s) include Palash Dolai; Kamaraj Ammasi; and Arun Kumar Elangovan.
The application for the patent was published on Aug. 1, under issue no. 31/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "In nuclear heat exchanger, large diameter hemispherical dished end with nozzles through holes with different diameters and projection, is critical job to handle during its manufacturing processes. Due to requirement of job handling, the job needs lug supports on its outer peripheral body plane that needs to be used to tilt, rotate, move critical shaped heavy weight job. The new device, temporary type in nature, can be clamped easily with the job and once locked, using bolted connection, can act like permanently welded lug as well. The device is detachable flange type mechanical arrangement that is designed to match the job clapping surface geometry. Once the device is locked by bolts, proper contrant is achieved between the job and device. Thus, the device eliminates requirement of permanent lug support and assists the job to safely tilt, rotate and handle at different angle and position for various machining, fabrication and inspection."
