MUMBAI, India, July 11 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441050697 A) filed by Manipal Academy Of Higher Education, Manipal, Karnataka, on July 2, 2024, for 'a device and method for soft palate retraction.'
Inventor(s) include Akshay Padinharakandy.
The application for the patent was published on July 11, under issue no. 28/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The problem of soft palate obscuring view in surgery is solved using retracting it with a new device. The device moves up and down the soft palate and uvula without pressing on the tissue, which gives a good view of the adenoids. It is made from tissue-friendly, flexible material to help shield mucosal tissue around the respiratory tubes. These features are comfortable for the patient and may be easily adjusted to remain out of the surgeon's field of vision, especially the soft palate and uvula. Leads to better results in surgeries aimed at serving palatine and uvula, as chances of conducting wrong cut, or causing harm to the soft palate and uvula, unlike other devices, are eliminated."
