MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641024607 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on March 2, for 'a floor-integrated footstep energy harvesting device and method of operating the same.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. V. Sivakumar; Nithish Vinay Kumar V; Harish Chandru S; and Harish I.

The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure proposes a floor-integrated footstep energy harvesting device (100). The device (100) comprises a supporting frame (102) and a load-receiving platform (104) vertically displaceable under a downward force exerted by a user footstep. At least one biasing member (106) restores the load-receiving platform (104) toward an initial position. A piezoelectric energy conversion assembly (108) generates a first electrical output during an impact phase. A transmission assembly (110), having a rack member (112), a pinion member (114), and an electrical generator (116), converts compression-phase displacement into rotational motion to generate a second electrical output. An electromagnetic induction assembly (120) produces a third electrical output during an extended generation phase. A power management and storage assembly (126) with at least one energy storage element (128) stores the generated outputs, enabling coordinated multi-phase mechanical-to-electrical energy conversion."
