MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (1355/KOL/2012 A) filed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited on November 26, 2012, for "a High Capacity Voltage Transformer For Power Line Carrier Communication (plcc) In Uhv Transmission Systems".

Inventors include Mahendra Kurre; and Kulamani Naik.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to a high-rating capacitor voltage transformer (CVT) for UHV transmission systems, theCVT supplying protective voltage signals to the measuring instruments including protective relays in the power supply network and allowing uninterrupted power line carrier communications, the CVT comprising : an electromagnetic voltage unit housed inside a tank of the CVT, and having an intermediate voltage transformer, a medium voltage reactor, and at least one ferro- resonance damping device; and a capacitor voltage unit mounted over the CVT tank and consisting of at least one capacitor voltage divider essentially comprising a high value primary capacitance and a high value secondary capacitance; wherein the ferro-resonance damping device is disposed between the intermediate tapping points at the primary HV end of the intermediate voltage transformer.
