MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611024873 A) filed by Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on March 2, for 'a method, a spectacle lens, and a system for ai/ml assisted peripheral vision optimization in progressive spectacle lenses.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Ravindra Kumr Manik.

The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an AI/ML-assisted peripheral vision optimization framework for progressive spectacle lenses that improves real-world visual performance and wearer comfort. Progressive spectacle lenses inherently suffer from peripheral distortion, unwanted astigmatism, and image-swim effects due to continuous power variation from distance to near vision zones. The disclosed system and method employ artificial intelligence and machine learning models to analyze optical design parameters and wearer-specific visual behavior data to predict functionally important peripheral viewing regions. Based on this analysis, the framework generates an optimized progressive lens surface geometry by selectively redistributing peripheral astigmatism, controlling curvature gradients, and minimizing motion-induced distortion while maintaining smooth optical power progression."
