MUMBAI, India, June 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202341087654 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 21, 2023, for 'a method and system for handling multiple lane splits for lateral localization of a vehicle.'
Inventor(s) include Bharath Bhat; and Trishna Patil.
The application for the patent was published on June 27, under issue no. 26/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed herein is a method and navigation system for identifying lane for navigating vehicle through plurality of split lanes. In an embodiment, method comprises identifying starting point of plurality of split lanes, before an actual start of split, using map data corresponding to plurality of split lanes. Further method comprises identifying one or more lane parameters related to each of plurality of split lanes. Thereafter, histogram bin corresponding to each of 10 plurality of split lanes is generated and is appended to an existing set of histogram bins. Further, current lane of vehicle, among plurality of lane splits, is identified based on one or more lane parameters. Subsequently, lane probability score associated with each of histogram bins is updated upon identifying current lane of the vehicle. Finally, histogram bin having highest lane probability score is identified and lane associated with determined histogram bin is designated 15 as future lane for navigating vehicle."
