MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511123913 A) filed by Noida Institute Of Engineering & Technology, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on Dec. 9, 2025, for 'a method for synthesis, characterization and pharmacological evaluation of cinnoline derivatives.'

Inventor(s) include Dr Rakhi Mishra; Dr Rupa Mazumder; Shagun Saxena; Swati Yadav; Bhavani Pentela; and Dr Sushma Verma.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed herein is a method for synthesis, characterization, and pharmacological evaluation of cinnoline derivatives (100) involves multiple sequential steps. Initially, a diazonium salt solution is prepared by treating a substituted aniline with hydrochloric acid and sodium nitrite under cooling to yield a transparent diazonium salt (102). This solution is then reacted with cyanoacetamide in the presence of ethanol, water, and sodium acetate to produce a substituted phenylhydrazono (cyano) acetamide derivative (104). The obtained derivative is further converted into a substituted 4-aminocinnoline-3-carboxamide (106) through reaction with monochlorobenzene and aluminum chloride under reflux conditions. Subsequently, the 4-aminocinnoline-3-carboxamide undergoes reaction with urea in dimethylformamide under reflux to yield a 4-amino substituted cinnoline-3-carbonylurea derivative (108). The synthesized cinnoline derivatives are then subjected to characterization using various analytical techniques (110) and further evaluated pharmacologically (112) to assess their biological activity."
