MUMBAI, India, May 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311080689 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Nov. 28, 2023, for 'a novel sunscreen formulation and method thereof.'

Inventor(s) include Sakshi Sharma Dogra; Dr. Gurpinder Singh; Rishi Chawla; and Lakshay Gaur.

The application for the patent was published on May 30, under issue no. 22/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention contains selection of drug as per the solubility and is mixed with plant extracts (101) and then mixing of oils or excipients is done (102) as per the formulations to be made, finally the formulation is isolated (103).. The compounds chosen are avobenzone, homosalate, octinoxate, octisalate, octocrylene, oxybenzone, titanium dioxide, and zinc oxide alone or in combination thereof. Polymeric nanoparticle formulation incorporated into hydrogel (carbopol: 1%) is a novel delivery system with unique composition of excipients for topical application for sun protection. The final formulation is subjected to stability studies as per ICH guidelines. The said process is industrially scalable and cost effective."
