MUMBAI, India, Nov. 21 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421038502 A) filed by Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Maharashtra, on May 16, 2024, for 'a process for treating feedstock to enhance biomethanation potential for biogas production and composition used therein.'

Inventor(s) include Kumar, Manoj; Sahoo, Prakash Chandra; Gupta, Ravi Prakash; Bhattacharyya, Debasis; and Ramakumar, Sankara Sri Venkata.

The application for the patent was published on Nov. 21, under issue no. 47/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention provides processes and compositions for a treatment of perishable and non-perishable feedstock to enhance biomethanation potential for biogas production. The process provided herein comprises preservation treatment of perishable feedstock with microorganism producing extracellular antimicrobial peptides, a proliferation promoter, an organic acid adsorbed media, and antimicrobial nanoparticles in a specified sequence to obtain a preserved feedstock having storage life of 7 months to 8 months without degradation of biomethanation potential. The process provided herein also comprises pre-conditioning treatment of non-perishable feedstock with a hetero-fermentative lactic acid bacterial blend and a bio-conditioner at least 90 days to 100 days before use as feedstock for biogas production to obtain a pre-conditioned feedstock having improved biomethanation potential for biogas production."
