MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641025466 A) filed by Meenakshi Academy Of Higher Education And Research; and Meenakshi Ammal Dental College And Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on March 4, for 'a process of preparation of graphene oxide-herbal hybrid mouthwash for plaque control and gingival health.'

The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a method of preparing a nanocomposite mouthwash formulation for oral wellness comprising: a. drying pomegranate (Punica granatum) peels, pulverizing into fine powder, and subjecting the powder to aqueous ethanol extraction under reflux, followed by filtration and rotary evaporation to obtain a concentrated pomegranate peel extract; b. dispersing graphene oxide nanoparticles in sterile distilled water, and sonicated to obtain graphene oxide dispersion; c. mixing the concentrated pomegranate peel extract with the graphene oxide dispersion under continuous stirring, to obtain hybrid nanocomposite solution; d. incorporating glycerol as humectant, sodium benzoate as preservative, to the hybrid nanocomposite solution and adjusting appropriate pH followed by sterile filtration and packaging to obtain nanocomposite mouthwash formulation. The present invention also discloses a nanocomposite mouthwash formulation for oral wellness prepared by the process as described above."
