MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641025208 A) filed by Meenakshi Academy Of Higher Education And Research; and Meenakshi Ammal Dental College And Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on March 3, for 'a process of preparation of herbal nanoparticle composition for control of periodontal pathogens.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a process of preparation of a nanoparticle-based herbal antimicrobial composition for control of periodontal pathogens, comprising: a. dissolving chitosan in distilled water and adjusting the pH to obtain a polymer solution; b. gradually adding fresh Calotropis procera plant sap into the polymer solution under continuous stirring to form herbal-loaded nanoparticles dispersion; c. purifying the herbal-loaded nanoparticles dispersion by centrifugation to obtain purified nanoparticles; d. resuspending the purified nanoparticles in distilled water to obtain a stable nanoparticle-based herbal antimicrobial composition. The present invention also discloses a nanoparticle-based herbal antimicrobial composition for control of periodontal pathogens, prepared by the process as described above."
