MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641025472 A) filed by Meenakshi Academy Of Higher Education And Research; Meenakshi Ammal Dental College and Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on March 4, for 'a process of preparation of phytonanocomposite bone graft formulation for enhanced osteogenesis and bone healing.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Nikita Ravi; Dr. S. Padmaja; Dr. Jaideep Mahendra; and Dr. Anitha Logaranjani K.
The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a process for preparing a phyto-nanocomposite bone graft formulation, for enhanced osteogenesis and bone healing, comprising: a. placing dried grape seeds in hot water and allowing to steep followed by filtering to obtain filtrate of grape seed extract; b. dissolving the grape seed extract in distilled water under continuous stirring to obtain a homogeneous phytochemical solution; c. dispersing carbon nanoparticles selected from graphene or carbon nanotubes into of the phytochemical solution using ultrasonication to form a dispersion; d. incorporating the dispersion into a polyethylene glycol (PEG) hydrogel matrix prepared by dissolving PEG in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS, appropriate pH), followed by crosslinking with glutaraldehyde under gentle stirring and controlled addition of sterile glycerol to obtain a moldable, putty-like consistent formulation; e. sterilizing the moldable, putty-like consistent formulation to yield a biocompatible, moldable phyto-nanocomposite bone graft formulation."
