MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411028558 A) filed by Gujarat Fluorochemicals Limited; and Gfcl Ev Products Limited, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on April 8, 2024, for 'a process of preparing high purity fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC).'

The application for the patent was published on Oct. 31, under issue no. 44/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a process for preparing colorless and high purity Fluoroethylene Carbonate (FEC). The process comprises the steps of: a) mixing anhydrous potassium fluoride and anhydrous dimethyl carbonate and heating to remove water; b) cooling the reaction mixture followed by addition of a catalyst and a polymerization inhibitor to the reaction mixture; c) adding Chloroethylene Carbonate (CEC) to the reaction mixture at 45-60 C; d) maintaining the reaction temperature at 70-75 C for 1-4 hrs; e) cooling the reaction mixture to room temperature followed by vacuum filtration and washing; f) carrying out vacuum distillation to obtain the crude product; g) adding stabilizer to the crude product; and h) subjecting the crude product to purification to obtain pure FEC."
