MUMBAI, India, Aug. 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421005637 A) filed by B. K. Birla Public School, Kalyan, Maharashtra, on Jan. 29, 2024, for 'a safety fan system and method for preventing suicide attempts.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "According to the present invention, a safety fan system (100) and method for preventing suicide attempts are disclosed. The safety fan system aims to save a person's life without sending suicide attempt warnings to other nearby people and students. In the present disclosure, a ceiling fan (110) is fitted with a sensor or shock up spring (155) that detects weight more than 10 kg. The shock up spring, if activated, alerts an authorized person through an alarm or bell upon connecting a contactor (158) by a limit switch (157). Further, the present disclosure transmits an alert with message having a geolocation of the person attempting suicide, for example the room no. of the student who is trying to commit suicide. The safety fan system of the present disclosure can save a student's life without warning the other students about the sensor and the system does not break or damage the fan."
