MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641047884 A) filed by Vels Institute Of Science, Technology And Advanced Studies, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on April 15, for 'a system and a method of portable skin disease analysis.'

Inventor(s) include T. R. Thamizhvani; and R. Chandrasekaran.

The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed is a system for skin disease analysis using a portable diagnostic device (100) integrating multi-modal imaging and embedded processing. The system comprises an imaging module (102) including a high-resolution camera (102a) for capturing visible images and an infrared thermal camera (102b) for capturing thermal images indicative of subsurface variations. A processing unit (104), implemented on an embedded platform such as a Raspberry Pi, executes a system application layer (120) configured to perform image pre-processing (106), segmentation (108) of a region of interest, extraction (110) of physiological features including asymmetry, border irregularity, circularity, and diameter, and analysis (112) using a trained deep learning architecture. An ensemble classification module (114) determines a skin disease condition and severity level. A diagnostic output module (116) generates results, which are displayed via a display unit (118) along with thermal variation. The system enables real-time, portable, and accurate computer-aided diagnosis without reliance on external infrastructure."
