MUMBAI, India, July 11 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441046424 A) filed by Manipal Academy Of Higher Education, Manipal, Karnataka, on June 16, 2024, for 'a system and method for qr-based biometric-authenticated automated ration dispensing.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An automated ration vending system is presented that combines QR code identification with biometric fingerprint verification for secure and accurate distribution of government-subsidized goods. The system includes a QR code reader, fingerprint sensor, LCD screen, keypad, microcontroller, GSM module, load cell and relay-operated actuators/pumps. After verifying their identity, users can input the necessary amount of ration, which is then checked against their designated quota. Approved amounts are released and the leftover balance is refreshed and sent through SMS. Unauthorized users are prevented from continuing. The invention tackles inefficiencies, fraud and human mistakes in the Public Distribution System (PDS) by offering a clear, tamper-resistant and easily accessible automated method for secure ration distribution."
