MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641050864 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on April 21, for 'a system and method for stroke rehabilitation employing transcranial focused ultrasound.'
Inventor(s) include Shridevi S; Vijay Bala; Harshavardan; and Lokeswaran.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A closed-loop neuromodulation system 100 for post stroke rehabilitation of a patient 102 includes at least one neural sensing device 106 including a wearable headset 104 configured to acquire real-time neural activity signals 108 from the patient 102; a focused ultrasound machine 110 including at least one phased array transducer 120 to deliver low-intensity controlled ultrasound bursts 122; and a closed-loop controller 114 to acquire and process real-time signal 108 employing the at least one neural sensing device 106; pre-process to extract one or more neural activity features; compare neural state features with predefined set of target neural state to determine deviations in parameters; compute deviations in parameters to define adaptive ultrasound burst parameters and one or more safety concerns; and activate driver unit 118 to generate controlled ultrasound bursts 122; deliver controlled ultrasound bursts 122 for therapy using at least one transducer 120 to target selected region of the brain 124 of the patient 102."
