MUMBAI, India, July 25 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421004016 A) filed by Jsw Steel Limited, Maharashtra, on Jan. 19, 2024, for 'a system for hot metal desulphurization and stirring based desulphurization process involving the same.'
Inventor(s) include Mr. Mukund Manish; Mr. Pranav Kumar Tripathi; Mr. Eranna Thamanahalli; Mr. Harsh Joshi; Mr. Maruti Prasad; Mr. Satish Kumar Dabbiru; and Mr. Veeresh Bellatti.
The application for the patent was published on July 25, under issue no. 30/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a system for hot metal desulphurisation and a method of desulfurizing treatment of hot metal which can reliably improve reaction between of a desulfurizing agent and sulphur of hot metal. The disclosed method of desulfurization treatment of hot metal includes: a novel impeller eccentrically immersed in hot metal contained in a reaction vessel and adding a desulfurizing agent while rotating the impeller. Stirring of the hot metal and the desulfurizing agent is implemented by rotating impeller for desulfurization treatment of the hot metal. In the present invention, Impeller has wedges on the top of all four peddles of impeller and the desulfurization treatment is performed with eccentric position of novel impeller with respect to centre line of reaction vessel. The combined effect of presentdesign and position of impeller disturbed the uniform hot metal vortex and it leads to improve the reaction between bath sulphur and desulphurizing agents which leads to increased desulphurization rate from existing 88% to 99%."
