MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311087273 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 20, 2023, for 'a system for luggage management in a luggage compartment of vehicles.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A luggage management system (500) for a vehicle includes a base (102) provided at a bottom of a luggage compartment (104) and an array of roller assemblies (106), facilitating the efficient movement of luggage. Each roller assembly (106) is equipped with rotatable rollers (108), propelled by one or more motors (112). Through the incorporation of one or more sensors and/or one or more cameras, the system (500) determines the presence of luggage, gauges its weight, size and shape and determines the occupancy status. A controller (502) communicatively connected to one or more sensor and/or one or more cameras, modulates roller (108) movements to optimize space utilization, autonomously repositioning luggage based on its dimensions. Additionally, a locking mechanism is incorporated to enhance security during transit."
