MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641050503 A) filed by Sona College Of Technology, Salem, Tamil Nadu, on April 21, for 'a wearable smart kneecap system and method for joint-level knee posture monitoring and correction.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. R. S. Sabeenian; Pooja Sri S E; Sanjay S; and Yaswanth S.

The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A wearable smart kneecap system and method for monitoring and correcting knee posture are disclosed. The system includes a first inertial sensing module positioned on a thigh segment and a second inertial sensing module positioned on a calf segment, each configured to independently determine segment orientation. A posture evaluation module derives a knee joint posture parameter based on joint-level relative orientation between the independently determined segment orientations without direct fusion of raw inertial sensor data between the sensing modules. A pressure sensing module detects sustained contact pressure associated with asymmetric or cross-leg posture. An alert generation module provides haptic corrective feedback when predefined posture-deviation criteria persist beyond a predefined time duration. The system may further transmit posture-related data to a remote monitoring platform. The disclosed architecture enables accurate, real-time knee posture monitoring during daily activities while maintaining a compact, wearable form factor."
