MUMBAI, India, Aug. 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202431006244 A) filed by Tata Steel Limited, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, on Jan. 31, 2024, for 'a weld detection system for measuring residual stress of welded products and a method thereof.'
Inventor(s) include Nikhil Shajan; Brajesh Asati; Kanwer Singh Arora; Raj Manik; and Sidheshwar Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on Aug. 1, under issue no. 31/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a weld detection system (102) and a method (300) for residual stress measurement. The weld detection system includes a fixture (106) adapted to support an electric resistance (ER) welded product (104). Further, the weld detection system includes a control circuitry (118) configured to receive real-time visual media of the welded product while rotating about a central axis (X-X') of the welded product in the fixture. The control circuitry detects a weld region (202) in the welded product by applying image processing techniques to the real-time visual media. Further, the control circuitry assigns a label indicative of a reference position (204) to the weld region. The control circuitry facilitates rotation of the welded product about the central axis for a preferred circumferential location from the reference position to compute residual stress in the welded product."
