MUMBAI, India, Aug. 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411003464 A) filed by Chandigarh University; and Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator, Mohali, Punjab, on Jan. 17, 2024, for 'adaptable zebra crossing system.'
Inventor(s) include Shivam Pandey; Dr. Vikas Wasson; Ruchi; Nitika; and Shweta Chauhan.
The application for the patent was published on Aug. 1, under issue no. 31/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An adaptable zebra crossing system, comprises of a platform 1 marked with zebra crossing pattern to act as a zebra crossing for pedestrians, a ladder-like structure 2 accessed by pedestrians waiting for the red signal, an artificial intelligence-based imaging unit 3 to determine color of light on the traffic signal post, plurality of hydraulically operated rods 4 for raising the platform 1, a pair of speakers 5 to produce audio alerts, a push button 6 accessed by pedestrians as a request for elevating the platform 1, an air bag 9 to get inflated to prevent any damage to the vehicles, a crash sensor 10 for monitoring the impact of collision, an electric igniter 11 for inflating the bags 9, and a solar panel 7 installed on the structure 2 via a pair of pole 8 for harnessing the solar energy."
