MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123020 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'advanced control system for underwater remotely operated vehicles.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Veerapu Goutham; Dr. Gopinath P; Dr. Nisha J S; Mr. Konakla Venkateswarlu Reddy; Mr. B S Karthikeya Reddy; and Miss. Swetha P.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides an advanced control system for underwater remotely operated vehicles. The control system includes a mathematical model representing underwater ROV dynamics including hydrodynamic damping, added mass phenomena, and buoyancy effects in state-space form, a Model Predictive Control (MPC) module that optimizes control inputs over a prediction horizon by solving an optimization problem considering system dynamics and constraints while minimizing a cost function, a Model Reference Adaptive Control (MRAC) module that adaptively adjusts controller parameters by matching system output to a reference model, a neuro-adaptive enhancement module with an artificial neural network that approximates unknown nonlinearities and external disturbances using adaptive weight update laws derived from Lyapunov stability analysis, and a leakage modification mechanism that prevents parameter drift in neural network weights. The underwater ROV operates using multiple control strategies for trajectory tracking."
