Intellectual Property India Publishes Patent Application for 'Ai-Based Image Encoding Device And Image Decoding Device, And Image Encoding And Decoding Method By Same' Filed by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.

MUMBAI, India, May 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517043870 A) filed by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., Gyeonggi, Republic of Korea, on May 6, for 'ai-based image encoding device and image decoding device, and image encoding and decoding method by same.'

Inventor(s) include Dinh, Quockhanh; Kim, Kyungah; Park, Minsoo; Park, Minwoo; Choi, Kwangpyo; and Piao, Yinji.

The application for the patent was published on May 30, under issue no. 22/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An AI-based image decoding method and a device for performing the AI-based image decoding method are proposed. According to the AI-based image decoding method, a transform block for a residual block of a current block is obtained from a bitstream; a transform kernel for the transform block is generated by applying a prediction block for the current block, surrounding pixels of the current block, and coding context information to a neural network; the residual block is obtained by applying the generated transform kernel to the transform block; and the current block is restored using the residual block and the prediction block."

The patent application was internationally filed on Sept. 22, 2023, under International application No.PCT/KR2023/014500.
