MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541124389 A) filed by Vishnu Institute Of Technology, Kovvada, Andhra Pradesh, on Dec. 10, 2025, for 'ai-powered solar waste segregation system for automated classification and disposal.'

Inventor(s) include Rayudu Bharath Kumar; D. Durga Prasad; Devarapalli Madhavi Sasikala; Chembeti Venkata Sai Krishna; Irra Hemanth; and Borusu Nithin Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention provides an AI-powered solar waste segregation system capable of autonomously identifying, classifying, and routing waste into designated bins. A camera module captures images of waste items, which are processed by a Raspberry Pi executing a trained convolutional neural network (CNN) to classify materials such as plastic, metal, paper, and glass. Based on this classification, an Arduino-controlled servo mechanism directs the waste into the appropriate compartment. Ultrasonic sensors monitor bin fill levels, while a GSM module transmits alerts when bins are full. A solar-panel-based power subsystem ensures uninterrupted, energy-efficient operation. The integrated AI, actuation, IoT monitoring, and renewable energy supply provide a compact, autonomous, and sustainable waste management solution."
