MUMBAI, India, July 11 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411067618 A) filed by Dr. B R Ambedkar National Institute Of Technology, Jalandhar, Punjab, on Sept. 6, 2024, for 'alumina nanowire doped polymer liquid crystals composite and method for preparation thereof.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Praveen Malik; and Dr. Ashwani Kumar Singh.

The application for the patent was published on July 11, under issue no. 28/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A method (100) for preparing an alumina nanowire (ANWs) doped polymer dispersed liquid crystals (PDLCs) composite. Further, the method (100) comprises choosing an alumina nanowire compatible with a PDLCs. Further, the method (100) comprises dispersing 1.0% by weight of the alumina nanowire inside a solvent, followed by stirring to obtain a homogenous ANWs mixture. Further, the method (100) comprises mixing a liquid crystal material, a polymer in the solvent to obtain a PDLCs mixture. Further, the method (100) comprises adding the homogenous ANWs into the PDLCs, followed by continuous stirring to ensure a proper mixing and dispersion of the ANWs throughout the PDLCs matrix. A UV light (intensity 3.0 mW/cm2) was used to polymerize the PDLC cell for two hours. The ANWs doped PDLC films operates at relatively at low voltage (19.5V) and show improved transparency than conventional PDLCs."
