MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641049740 A) filed by Santhosh N; Dr. U N Kempaiah; and University Of Visvesvaraya College Of Engineering, Bengaluru, Karnataka, on April 19, for 'aluminium composite plates for cargo ship decks.'

Inventor(s) include Santhosh N; Dr. U N Kempaiah; and University Of Visvesvaraya College Of Engineering.

The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An aluminium composite plate for use in cargo ship decks is disclosed. The plate comprises a pair of outer aluminium alloy skins bonded to a lightweight core material forming a sandwich structure. The composite plate provides a high strength-to-weight ratio, improved corrosion resistance, and enhanced fatigue performance compared to conventional steel deck plates. The structure is adapted to withstand distributed and localized loads encountered in cargo handling operations. Fire-retardant core materials and protective surface treatments are incorporated to meet marine safety standards. The invention enables reduced vessel weight, improved fuel efficiency, and simplified installation while maintaining structural integrity under harsh marine conditions."
