MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441033080 A) filed by K. Ramakrishnan College Of Technology, Trichy, Tamil Nadu, on April 26, 2024, for 'an air bag system for two wheelers riding jackets.'

Inventor(s) include Mr. M. D. Udayakumar; Mr. J. Lingeshwer; Mr. D. Dinesh; Mr. P. Fizal Rahman; and Mr. S. M. Gokul.

The application for the patent was published on Oct. 31, under issue no. 44/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses an airbag mechanism for two-wheelers riding jackets, featuring a crash detection unit with a piezoelectric accelerometer sensor(52)to detect impacts, interfaced with a capacitor(51) unit storing electrical energy for rapid inflation of the airbag with nitrogen gas. The airbag, constructed of nylon material coated with silicon for durability, covers the torso region upon deployment, safeguarding vital organs. Powered by an external battery, the system includes a compressor(53) unit to ensure controlled inflation without combustion risks. Integration of the specified accelerometer sensor(52)is crucial for accurate collision detection, while nylon material offers strength and tear resistance vital for proper airbag function. Using nitrogen gas in the compressor(53) mitigates fire hazards and corrosion, enhancing airbag reliability. illustrates the system's isometric view, showcasing jacket layers and sensor integration."
