MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621007806 A) filed by Mr. Prasad T. Gunjal; and Dr. Janki B. Patel, Vadodara, Gujarat, on Jan. 27, for 'an amorphous solid dispersion-based pharmaceutical compositions of tizanidine or its salts thereof.'
Inventor(s) include Mr. Prasad T. Gunjal; and Dr. Janki B. Patel.
The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising an amorphous solid dispersion of tizanidine or its pharmaceutically acceptable salts and a process for preparing the same. The amorphous solid dispersion comprises tizanidine molecularly dispersed in one or more pharmaceutically acceptable carriers selected from polymers, surfactants, or combinations thereof, optionally along with suitable excipients. The solid dispersion is prepared using techniques such as hot melt extrusion or spray drying to obtain a physically stable, free-flowing amorphous system. The compositions exhibit improved micromeritic properties, including bulk density, tapped density, compressibility index, Hausner's ratio, and angle of repose, making them suitable for oral solid dosage forms. The formulation demonstrates significantly enhanced aqueous solubility and rapid dissolution, thereby improving the oral bioavailability of tizanidine."
