According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention is related to an herbal gum paint formulation comprising melatonin and amla for gingivitis. addressing limitations of conventional synthetic treatments such as irritation, allergic reactions, and patient discomfort. The formulation combines Melatonin and Amla (Emblica officinalis) to provide synergistic antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and tissue-healing effects. Melatonin contributes potent antioxidant, antiseptic, and immunomodulatory properties, while Amla, rich in polyphenols, tannins, and vitamin C, exhibits antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The optimized formulation (F6) comprises Amla 60 mg, Melatonin 40 mg, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose 200 mg, Sodium Citrate 100 mg, ethanol, distilled water, and glycerol, yielding ideal viscosity, spreadability, and mucoadhesion. Sustained and controlled release ensures prolonged therapeutic action with reduced dosing frequency. Compatibility confirmed by FTIR and spectroscopic analysis supports stability and biocompatibility.
