MUMBAI, India, Nov. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517069450 A) filed by E. V. A Biosystems Limited, Edinburgh, U.K., on July 21, for 'autodegradable plastics.'
Inventor(s) include Speakman, Alexander Joseph.
The application for the patent was published on Nov. 14, under issue no. 46/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed is an autodegradable plastic material impregnated with a genetically engineered bacteria, in which the bacteria are engineered to include a genetic switch that is activated by an environmental factor. Activation of the switch causes expression of an enzyme that degrades the plastic."
The patent application was internationally filed on Dec. 21, 2023, under International application No.PCT/EP2023/087436.
