MUMBAI, India, May 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311079708 A) filed by Chandigarh Group Of Colleges, Mohali, Punjab, on Nov. 23, 2023, for 'automated manhole cover opening device.'
Inventor(s) include Manish Sharma; and Pradeep Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on May 30, under issue no. 22/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An automated manhole cover opening device comprises, a cylindrical hollow body 1 having a first and second portion, positioned on a ground surface via a pair of L-shaped hydraulic rods 2, an omnidirectional wheel 3 for enabling a user to manoeuvre the body 1 via gripping a handle 4 attached with the first portion, a camera 5 mounted on the body 1 for capturing multiple images of the manhole cover, a laser projection unit 6 mounted on the body 1 for projecting a laser beam on the determined central position of the manhole cover, a hammer 7 installed within the body 1 via a scotch yoke arrangement, for providing a reciprocatory motion to the hammer 7 for striking the manhole cover, and a motorized slider 12 configured between the members 11 and plate 9 for translating the members 11 to engage the members 11 with handlebar of the manhole cover."
