MUMBAI, India, Sept. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411013773 A) filed by Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research, New Delhi, on Feb. 26, 2024, for 'automated membrane-free electrolyzer for independent hydrogen and oxygen generation.'

Inventor(s) include Alagarsamy Pandikumar; Surappa Palaiah Thipperudraswamy; Sakkarapalayam Murugesan Senthil Kumar; and Subramanian Rajalekshmi.

The application for the patent was published on Sept. 12, under issue no. 37/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a Membrane-Free automated system and process for independent Hydrogen and Oxygen generation powered by either conventional or non-conventional energy sources. More particularly, the present invention describes the conventional or non-conventional energy sources powered automated system for water splitting with the anode and cathode for independent generation of hydrogen and oxygen without changing the electrode connection manually. The automated system provides membrane-free decoupled electrolyzer and micro-controller based dual supply circuit switches between positive and negative supply voltages for automated decoupled water splitting. The robust and membrane-free automated system minimize the energy losses by eliminating traditional inefficiencies such as high overpotentials and need of separate HER and OER catalysts."
