MUMBAI, India, Sept. 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411018218 A) filed by Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, on March 13, 2024, for 'automated off-axis drilling assistive device.'

Inventor(s) include Sunil Kumar Gaur.

The application for the patent was published on Sept. 26, under issue no. 39/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An automated off-axis drilling assistive device comprises of a cylindrical body 1 positioned over a wooden surface, an imaging unit 2 generates a 3-dimensional mapping of wooden surface which is displayed on a computing unit of user to allowing user to select a point and angle on surface, an ultrasonic sensor monitors distance between user-specified point and a threaded screw 3, a drill bit of a motorized drilling unit 5 is positioned on the point by an extendable L-shaped rod 6, an angle sensor determines angle of drill bit, a cylindrical member 7 is positioned near drill bit by a extendible link and drill bit is partially engaged with member 7, a motorized ball and socket joint 9 provides movement to member 7 for orienting drill bit, followed by actuation of drilling unit 5 to perform off-axis drilling on surface at point at user-specified angle."
