MUMBAI, India, June 20 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311084001 A) filed by Chandigarh Group Of Colleges, Mohali, Punjab, on Dec. 8, 2023, for 'automated railway sleeper changing device.'

Inventor(s) include Vikasdeep Mann; and Anikate Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on June 20, under issue no. 25/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An automated railway sleeper changing device comprising a cuboidal body 1 configured with a pair of motorized caterpillar wheels 2 that provides movement to body 1 on a railway track, a suspension arrangement is configured between wheels 2 and body 1 for providing stability to body 1, a primary chamber 3 storing fresh railway sleepers, an imaging unit 4 determines any damaged railway sleeper while moving over tack, a robotic link 5 configured with a flap 6 for positioning flap 6 over track for accommodation of rails constructed on track between a pair of slots 8 crafted on flap 6, an ultrasonic sensor for detecting distance between flap 6 and rails, a pair of clips 7 for gripping damaged sleeper, a motorized circular rack and pinion for providing a rotational motion to flap 6 to change orientation of gripped sleeper, a secondary chamber for releasing sleeper inside secondary chamber."
