MUMBAI, India, Oct. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411022346 A) filed by Chandigarh University; and Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator, Mohali, Punjab, on March 22, 2024, for 'automated sugarcane peeling and cutting device.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An automated sugarcane peeling and cutting device, comprising a body 1 positioned on a fixed surface by means of plurality of suction cups 2, a display panel 3 integrated on the body 1 for receiving user's input regarding user-desired sugarcane pieces, an imaging unit 4 installed on body 1 to determine position of a tray 5 arranged in the body 1, a robotic arm 6 installed in the body 1 to grip a sugarcane, a rotatable frame 7 with plurality of blades 8 arranged on body 1 for peeling the sugarcane, a cutter 10 integrated in body 1 by means of a telescopically-operated link 9 to cut peeled sugarcane from evaluated distances, a color sensor to detect stale parts of the cut sugarcane, a robotic gripper 12 arranged in the body 1 for storing user-specified pieces in a container 13 arranged in the body 1."
