MUMBAI, India, June 20 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202414091823 A) filed by Daido Metal Company Ltd., Nagoya, Japan, on Nov. 25, 2024, for 'bearing device for crankshaft of internal combustion engine.'

Inventor(s) include Sato Tatsuki; and Maitani Shinya.

The application for the patent was published on June 20, under issue no. 25/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "In a bearing device for a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine, an outer circumferential surface of each split bearing in a non-mounted state is made up of first and second curved surfaces (81, 82) formed along two types of arcs with different curvatures. In a mounted state, respective circumferential end surfaces of a pair of split bearings are in contact with each other without any gap, and the first and second curved surfaces of the outer circumferential surfaces of the pair of split bearings are in contact with an inner circumferential surface of a bearing holding hole without any gap. A third curved surface in the area corresponding to the second curved surface is displaced radially outward, causing a fourth curved surface (72) to be formed at a position adjacent to each circumferential end of an inner circumferential surface of each split bearing. A thickness (T3) of a sliding layer is constant over the entire circumferential length of each split bearing or is maximum at a circumferential center of the inner circumferential surface and continuously decreases toward the circumferential ends of the split bearing."
